1. CSS Polygons

Using clip-path: polygon(). SURGICAL FIX: We let the native rounded-xl sit underneath the shape without toggling it off. This eliminates the nasty corner flashing you saw on close!

A. The Cyber Notch

B. The Diagonal Reveal

C. The Chat Bubble

A standard div turned into a message bubble using coordinates.

D. Banner Ribbon

Flag Cutouts

E. Sci-Fi Octagon

Beveled Corners

F. Parallelogram

Slanted Layout

G. The Cross Cutout

2. Inline SVGs & Shadows

CSS polygons can't do curves easily. For organic shapes, we define paths in a hidden <svg> block at the top of the file using clipPathUnits="objectBoundingBox" so they scale responsively from 0 to 1.

A. Folder Tab

System Files

B. Ticket Stub

ADMIT ONE

C. Liquid Drip

Organic Drop

D. Cloud Header

Bubbly Top Edge

E. Sine Wave

Smooth Base

F. Zig-Zag Edge

Receipt Teeth

G. Arch Notch

Sweeping Arch Cutout

3. Mask Images

Unlike clip paths which use coordinate boundaries, mask-image acts like a physical stencil overlay. You can use external SVG files, gradient fades, or repeating patterns. Black pixels equal 100% visible; transparent pixels equal hidden.

A. External SVG Mask

B. The Themed Icon

Color changes instantly!

C. Gradient Opacity Mask

This text block will smoothly fade into transparency at the bottom when toggled. Incredibly useful for UI elements indicating there is more content to scroll down to.

D. Halftone Dot Pattern

E. Repeating Stripes

F. Barcode Stencil

G. Vignette Fade

4. CSS Hover Morphing

SURGICAL FIX: Stripped rounded-xl off these elements completely so they maintain their sharp, strict geometric profiles during the morph!

5. View Transitions API

Instead of animating CSS properties, the browser natively screenshots the active DOM elements, tracks where they move to, and interpolates their size, position, and clipping instantly.

A. Grid List to Modal

B. Thumbnail to Lightbox

C. Toast to Inbox

D. FAB to Bottom Sheet

E. Dynamic Sorting (Click to top)

  • Project Alpha
  • Project Beta
  • Project Gamma

F. Search Bar to Overlay

G. Mini Player to Fullscreen

H. List to Hero Header

6. Text Clipping & Flow

Typography doesn't have to be boring. We can clip backgrounds inside text or force text to wrap organically around circular shapes instead of standard square boundaries.

A. Image Background Clip

STUNNING

B. Gradient Text Clip

NEON GLOW

C. Organic Text Wrapping

Notice how this paragraph text wraps perfectly around the curvature of the circular avatar, rather than forming a rigid square block next to it. The shape-outside property allows content to flow dynamically along a specified geometry, creating an editorial, magazine-like aesthetic on the web that feels highly polished and completely breaks the traditional rectangular grid system.

D. Outline Text Stroke

HOLLOW

E. Diagonal Text Wrap

By using a geometric polygon with the shape-outside property, this paragraph text is forced to wrap along a harsh diagonal slant. Notice how the text cascades perfectly down the hypotenuse of the triangle! This allows for incredibly dynamic layouts without complex grid tricks.
